QT Sydney | Director of Chaos | 2 yrs
Jokester, Friendly, Bubbly, Energetic, Loyal.
Greeting guests, organising valet cars and luggage, guest recommendations, directing the porters. Basically, directing chaos!
Both of my parents and two of my siblings have all worked in hotels and I thought it seemed like an interesting and fun career choice.
I get to meet and talk to amazing guests from all around the world. No day is ever the same.
Getting to work in a close-knit team of some of my closest friends. Having people you can joke around with on those extra stressful days makes everything so much easier.
Getting to train new staff and seeing people that you work alongside get recognised for their hard work.
Just getting recognition for your work. From both management and guests. I recently had 3 little girls draw a picture of me with a thank you letter, which was definitely a highlight.
For now I am happy to see what I can learn from the hospitality industry and see where it takes me.
Unhappy guests are always the biggest challenge as well as being constantly on your feet and having to do up to five different tasks simultaneously.
You will make friends for life by working in a hotel.
So many!! I have met several famous actors, musicians, athletes and politicians and have had some awesome conversations with a few. Favourite celebrity guests to date are The Veronicas. They are absolutely lovely.
Hotel jobs are definitely not unexciting. If you know someone who works in a hotel they will always have the funniest and most scandalous stories.
Without a doubt, hearing from guests about if you have made their stay better or easier. Makes all of the hard work worth it.
