What does your role entail?

My role varies I do Local Area Marketing for Event Cinemas Liverpool and this role involves building relationships with local business and community groups and local schools. Supporting the community is very rewarding and I get a greater knowledge of the needs of the community and get involved with local events.

In my role as Location Trainer I get to meet a large number of people who are passionate about working for Event Cinemas. I interview for new team members which means I meet a great deal of young people from local schools. I am always blown away to see the high calibre of applicants wanting to work at Event Cinemas.

How did you get your start working in Cinemas?

When I started working for Event Cinemas I had just had my first child. I had a successful career as a Legal Secretary but was looking for something flexible but challenging.

I had always intended on returning to the Legal Sector but did not as I enjoyed working for Event Cinemas and the flexibility it provided.

Why do you LIKE working in Cinemas?

I love working at Event Cinemas because of the people you meet. Whether it be customers or fellow team members the people you meet daily are always interesting. Team Members are always passionate about movies, watching movies and giving customers the best experience possible.

What’s your career path looked like to date?

I started at Event Cinemas in Gold Class at Event Cinemas Campbelltown, from there I was promoted to a supervisor within 3 months.  Shortly after that I accepted a position as a Duty Manager at Event Cinemas Burwood also doing Group Bookings.  From there I worked at Event Cinemas Parramatta as a Duty Manager and Location Trainer.  I then returned to Event Cinemas Campbelltown as a Duty Manager and Location Trainer.  I spent a few months at Blacktown Drive In, recruiting and training new staff members for the Skyline upgrade. After that I returned to Event Cinemas Campbelltown as a Duty Manager then took on additional duties doing Local Area Marketing for Event Cinemas Liverpool.

During your time at this Cinema, what has been your proudest moment?

As I have worked at many Cinemas across Sydney, I have recruited and trained a large number of staff across Sydney sites.

My proudest moments are when I have recruited team members at Event Cinemas and this is their first job.  Often when I return to a site sometimes 3 or 4 years later and see these team members have developed into great young people and Managers for Event Cinemas.

This fills me with pride at their personal and professional success.

What has been your greatest professional achievement to date?

Recently I obtained a job in Corporate Office as Cinema Operations Assistant for a maternity position.

Where do you wish to go from here?

My career at Event Cinemas to date has been so diverse, I cannot begin to imagine where to next.

What advice would you give to people considering a career in Cinemas?

I would say to anyone considering a career at Event Cinemas to definitely go for it.  We need outgoing and excited people like you.  Some of the people you will meet will be friends that you will keep for life.

Have you met anyone famous during your career in Cinemas?

I met Zac Efron when we held the Premier of Charlie St Cloud at Event Cinemas Parramatta. I was the Manager who got to show Zac around the complex and ride in the lift with him! When in the lift he said I smelled like a combination of candy and popcorn!

Can you bust any Cinema myths?

You never get sick of the smell or taste of popcorn!

Tell us about one of your best Cinema experiences?

Even though I have done many, many shifts in Gold Class and spent many hours cleaning Gold Class Cinemas, I am always impressed by the cinemas and service when I go to watch a movie in Gold Class.
